Speaking and Teaching

Sharing what we know is the cornerstone of journalism, and, as the industry and our jobs change, it’s never been more important to share what we know about ourselves, too.

I welcome opportunities to share my corner of the world, in private conversations or large groups, one-on-one threads or big conference rooms.

Some things I work on and speak about often:

  • Launching Homicide Watch D.C.
  • Entrepreneurial journalism
  • Fundraising for independent projects
  • Women in the media
  • Jazz and innovation

If you’re planning a conference or speaker series, or simply want to chat, I’d love to hear from you. Reach me anytime at .

I enjoy working with student journalists and I frequently guest lecture and mentor young reporters.

I’ve worked with students and guest lectured at the following institutions:

  • American University
  • Columbia
  • Georgetown
  • George Washington University
  • Harvard
  • Stony Brook University
  • University of Colorado, Boulder
  • University of Maryland
  • University of Wisconsin, Madison
